Haryana earmarks Rs 30 crore for promotion of sports

Chandigarh, Aug 20 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that the government has earmarked Rs 30.50 crore for promotion of sports during the current financial year and there was also a plan to set up a modern sports academy with Central assistance at Rohtak.

Mr Hooda was speaking after inaugurating a boxing-cum-wrestling hall constructed at a cost of about Rs 31 lakh at Bhim stadium complex in the memory of Arjun and Dronacharya Awardee Capt Hawa Singh at Bhiwani. He also paid floral tributes to Capt Hawa Singh.

Mr Hooda said that a plan to set up a modern sports complex over an area of 100 acres was under consideration of the government.

He said that Rs 40 crore would be spent during the current financial year to set up a sports stadium in a village in each block in the state. The scheme aimed at encouraging the rural youth to take up games and chanelise their energy.

He said that the diet money of sports persons has been doubled to Rs 100 and the number of nurseries has been increased from 20 to 31.

The CM said that Rs 2.40 crore had been sanctioned to set up a multipurpose hall at Motilal Nehru Sports School, Rai.
