Former Karnataka governor B P Singh dead
Lucknow, Aug 20 (UNI) Former Karnataka governor and ex Union minister Bhanu Pratap Singh died here today after prolonged illness.
Singh's end came this morning at his Triveni Nagar residence here. He was 89.
He was elected to the UP Assembly in 1962 and 1967. Singh was also arrested during Emergency.
Elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1977, Singh went on to become the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development and also hold independent charge of rural construction.
He was also the editor of ''Farmer's Voice'' and ''Gaon Ki Pukar''.
Singh served as the Governor of Karnataka from May 8, 1990 to January 6, 1991.
Governor T V Rajeswar and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav condoled the death of the leader. In separate messages, the two expressed sorrow at the death of a person ''who worked for the uplift of the common man''.
His mortal remains were cremated here with full state honours.
A wreath was laid at the body of Singh on behalf of the Governor.
