Fire destroys 5 coaches of train in AP, rail traffic hit
Hyderabad, Aug 20 (UNI) Five bogies of the Chennai-Hyderabad Express were gutted after a fire broke out in one of the compartments today, causing panic at the Secunderabad Railway Station.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot to put out the flames and prevent them from spreading to other bogies.
South Central Railway (SCR) authorities said the train's arrival and departure between Secunderabad and Hyderabad Nampally Stations was delayed due to the fire.
As a preventive measure, power supply was disconnected between the two stations which delayed the movement of rail traffic.
The SCR authorities said the smoke was noticed when the train was about to leave for to Hyderabad.
SCR General Manager D N Mathur, told newsmen that no one was injured. He also ruled out the possibility of any terrorist involvement in the incident.
The damage was estimated at Rs one crore. The Commissioner of Railway Safety has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Forensic experts rushed to the spot to investigate whether any explosives were planted in the train.
