Dayanidhi Maran to unveil commemorative stamp on IMC centenary

Mumbai, Aug 20 (UNI) The premier trade body, Indian Merchants' Chamber's 100th foundation day would be celebrated on September 7, and Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology Mr Dayanidhi Maran would release the IMC centenary commemorative stamp.

IMC President Mr Nayan Patel told UNI that the birth of IMC took place on September 7 and even today it is playing an active role in the commerce and development of our country.

As the year ushers in a renaissance at IMC towards the New ''Global Indian Business'', the focus is to dedicate the organisation to ''Bridging the Gaps of Globalization.'' The Agenda for this renaissance at IMC is to provide a global platform for Indian businesses and to help them make a mark on the world arena. The transformation of IMC is not just to adapt to the changing landscape of industry, business society and governance, but to drive this change and give it direction.

There are events such as the ''India calling Conference to be held on October 1, 2 and 3 in London that can promote bilateral trade between India and Europe and the Asian Conference to be held in Mumbai that looks at the progress and infrastructure in other cities in Asia.

Prominent Indian businessmen like Sir Manmohandas Ramji, Sir Purshottamdas Makordas and Sir Dinshaw Wacha established the Indian Merchants' Chamber in 1907 to help the trading days. It helped the trading community to take up issues against the British policies to ensure that Indian tradesmen did not lose out,'' says Patel adding that even Mahatma Gandhi accepted honorary membership of the Chamber.

''We interact with state and central government and represent reviews on behalf of Indian companies, commerce and industry to various levels of government but now that there is more transparency and liberalisaton, we are shifting our focus to a more global scale as well,'' Mr Patel added.
