Congress stifles Naidu voice in assembly: TDP
Vijayawada, Aug 20 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today criticised the Andhra Pradesh Government for stifling the voice of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu when he brought to the Government's notice its failure to provide succour to the flood affected victims.
Talking to newspersons here this evening, TDP Official spokesperson N Rajakumari said she had asked the Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, why it had not taken the help of army to rescue the people from the marooned villages in east and west Godavari districts on war-footing.
She alleged that even though Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced central assistance of Rs 200 crore from the National Calamity Contingency Fund(NCCF), the State Government could get only an additional amount of Rs 40 crore from NCCF, after taking into account the share of Rs 160 crore the Government was to get from the Centre.
She alleged that though there was a crop loss of Rs 500 crore in the State, ministers were criticising Mr Naidu, when he brought into light the 'indifferent' attitude of the Government.
Mrs Rajakumari said her party came to the rescue of the people, unlike the present Government.
She said the ministers were criticising Mr Naidu that floods occured due to non-constructing of irrigation projects in the state.
What prevented the Congress leaders from constructing it during their previous term, she asked.
During the TDP tenure, Mr.Naidu showed keen interest for getting repairs of drainages and canals in the State, she said.
The Congress Government has failed to repair the river bunds and not plugged the breaches, which led to inundation of many villages, she alleged.
