BJP wants national 'Vande Mataram' campaign

New Delhi, Aug 20: There is need for a national campaign to ensure singing of national song 'Vande Mataram' as a bulwark against insurgency and and terrorism, the BJP said today.

''This song inspired hundreds of people to lay down their lives for the cause of the country's freedom, it was used as a weapon against British rule. To oppose its singing is clearly anti-national,'' BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in a statement.

He said there was a need to crush such anti-national sentiments through a campaign on the singing of 'Vande Mataram', especially in view of the rise in terrorist and anti-national activities.
