Best is buzzword for fruit sellers in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Aug 20 (UNI) ''Best'' is the buzzword adopted by fruit sellers in the Jharkhand capital for almost all categories which was earlier stashed for few select items.

Be it imported apples, Autralian tamarind or classy mangoes, which a couple of years back were seen in the market adorned with a sticker ''Best Quality'' but today fuits locally produced bananas, papayas and pears to name a few have made access to the ''elite'' sticker to catch attention of the common customers as well.

On this new marketing device, Aftab, a leading fruit wholeseller, told UNI, '' Earlier we didn't use this type of strategies but tough competition has forced to adopt these tricks, just for our survival in the market. '' And customers are puzzled lot as those who used to take pride in the relatively costly imported fruits levelled as ''Best Quality'' can nowadays see even banana locally produced wearing same crown! ''Interestingly fruits are now packed individually and decoratively in separate packets with stickers mentioning their quality and rates'' said a trader.

He said the new kind of packing resulted in a ''significant'' increase in rates, however, adding it helped in long preservation of fruits as well.
