AP Govt asks for Rs 3,616 cr Central aid

Hyderabad, Aug 20 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Government today requested the Central team, which visited the flood-ravaged districts, for a Central assistance of Rs 3,616 crore to tide over the situation.

Talking to reporters after members of the Central Team headed by Union Home Joint Secretary met Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at his Camp Office, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said the government had submitted a report to this effect.

He said help was sought for agriculture and horticulture (Rs 46.59 cr), animal husbandry (Rs 6.73 cr), fisheries (Rs 2.03 cr), rural water supply (Rs 23.82 cr), roads and buildings under Panchayat Raj (Rs 203.43 cr), roads and buildings (Rs 227.25 cr), AP Transco (Rs 12 cr), municipal administration (Rs 132.23 cr) and irrigation and repairing breaches (Rs 1,189.35 cr).

Mr Rao also said an additional sum of Rs 1,000 crore was sought for strengthening the bunds of Godavari, Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers and Rs 1,146.48 crore for housing. He said 4,00,000 houses were proposed to be taken up under permanent housing scheme for the flood victims.

Government also sought an assistance of Rs 13 crore for repairs to damaged school buildings, Rs 41 crore under APSWREIS, Rs 50 crore for Medical and Health, Rs 280 crore for employment generation in agriculture, Rs 77 crore for employment generation for artisans and Rs 46 crore for other relief operations.

Mr Prasada Rao said the Central team expressed satisfaction over the government's report of the losses and damages. He expressed hope that the Centre would respond positively to the appeal.

Chief Secretary J Harinarayana, Relief Commissioner Ms Preeti Sudan and senior officials of different departments were also present at the meeting.
