AP Governor presents BRRGOL award to Swaminathan

Tirupati, Aug 20 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur today presented Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi Outstanding Leadership (BRRGOL) award--2006 to renowned food scientist and Chairman of National Commission on Farmers (NCF) M S Swaminathan here today.

Speaking at the function organised by the Academy of Grassroot Studies and Research of India and Rajiv Rural Development Foundation on the occasion of 62nd birth annivarsary of Rajiv Gandhi, the Governor said the former Prime Minister left his mark in the field of new technologies, particularly the computer and the telecom revolution.

He set up technology mission-for agriculture, communication, telecom, software and biotechnology, Mr Thakur said.

Earlier, the Governor also presented Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi (BRRG) best District Panchayat award-2006 to M V Bala Krishnan, President, Kasargod Panchayat of Kerala and BRRG best Taluk Panchayat award-2006 to M A Khadar, President, Tirurangadi Block Panchayat of Kerala and BRRG best Gram Panchayat award-2006 to Ms Lakshmamma, President, Bellandur Gram Panchayat, Bangalore rural, Karnataka.
