10 killed, 20 hurt as bus hits lorry

Tirupati, Aug 20 (UNI) Ten people were killed and 20 injured, six of them seriously, when a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus collided with a lorry on the Puttur-Chittoor Road at Tadduku Railway Station near Vadamalapet Mandal in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of today.

Police said the mishap occurred when the ill-fated bus, carrying 55 passengers, and proceeding to Tirupati from Koyembedu Bus Station in Chennai, collided with the iron-ore loaded lorry going to Chennai from Renigunta.

Of the ten people killed on the spot, five belonged to one family.

The deceased included two children and three women.

The injured persons were admitted to the Government Ruia Hospital here.

The passengers were on their way to Lord Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala.
