Srinagar, Aug 19 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the suspension of Assistant Director and tehsil officer of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD), following serious allegations of embezzlement of food-grains in the area and misleading the departmental authorities.
The two officials were suspended on the directions of the minister of CAPD Hakeem Yaseen after a high level meeting was convened to review the functioning of CAPD department.
Mr Yasin said he government will not allow misuse of rations being provided to the poor sections of the society under BPL and AAY.
He directed the Deputy Commissioners concerned to ensure that food grains are provided to the people in the state without any difficulty.
He also issued instructions for providing ration cards to the consumers with CAPD numbers duly attested by the authorities.
The Minister clarified that only 92 quintals of food-grains worth Rs 1.50 lakh were seized recently from Doda district and cost of the seized food-grains does not run into crores as reported. by a section of media.
However, the Minister maintained that the embezzlement case is being thoroughly investigated by the Vigilance Organisation. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated into the matter.
