''Sweet water'' rumour sends Mumbaikars in tizzy
Mumbai, Aug 19 (UNI) A rumour that the water of the Mahim Creek in Central Mumbai has turned ''sweet'' attracted the citizens in droves to the place since last night to test it.
The news spread like wildfire in the city, with hundreds of people thronging at the Creek to test the water throughout the night. People were seen filling the bottles to take the water home as they believed that it was a miracle of a Sufi saint, in whose memory a masjid was built near the creek.
The believers even carried the water to the patients, hoping it would cure their nearest and dearest ones who are suffering from a disease.
Officials of the health and hydrolic departments of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have collected the samples of water for testing.
The BMC sources said the reports are expected later in the day today.
BMC Commissioner Johny Joseph and scientists have appealed to the people not to drink the water, as it may be harmful for health.
But the saint's followers contradicted saying ''This is the miracle of Baba. (Yeh Baba Ka Chamtkar Hai).'' UNI ST LS VP1258
