Roll revision, photo ID cards to be completed by Dec
Varanasi, Aug 19 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalswamy today said the work-on revision of electoral rolls and preparation of photo identity cards of all voters ahead of the 2007 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls would be completed by the end of 2006.
Talking to newspersons after holding the meeting of senior administrative officials of Varanasi, Azamgarh and Gorakhpur divisions, the CEC said the work on revision of electoral rolls would be completed by October, while that pertaining to preparation of photo ID cards would be completed by the year end.
''The administrative officials have been directed to meet the deadline by working on a war footing,'' he added.
The CEC informed that a maximum of 1,500 voters would be allowed to cast their votes on one polling booth to ensure free and fair polls.
Mr Gopalswamy said the process of delimiting constituencies in UP would be completed within the next three months.
The CEC had directed officials to strive for transparency in the election process for ensuring a free and fair poll process ahead of the assembly elections.
