Responsibility of banning Coke and Pepsi lies with Centre

Kolkata, Aug 19 (UNI) Left Front Chairman and State Committee Secretary Biman Basu today made it clear that the banning of either Coke or Pepsi lay with the Centre and not with the state government.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Basu said, " We cannot ban the beverages as the responsibility lies with the Centre. " As far as Kerala was concerned, the state government there banned Coke and Pepsi on the power of an "executive order", he iterated.

Commenting on the alliance partner CPI's threatening to take to the street demanding ban on Coke and Pepsi in the state, Mr Basu refused to attach any importance to it.
