Monsoon toll mounts to 83 in MP
Bhopal, Aug 19 (UNI) With the death of four people in rain-related incidents during the past 24 hours, the monsoon toll in western Madhya Pradesh has mounted to 84 even as most parts of the state got some respite from heavy rains today.
With the recovery of one body from Itkhedi village in Bhopal today, the toll in the district shot up to 22. One person died each in Ratlam, Indore and Neemuch in rain-related incidents during the past 24 hours.
More than 50,000 people were affected in Hoshangabad and about 100 houses damaged due to heavy rains.
The Met department forecast heavy rains in the next 24 hours due to a low-pressure area over the state's north western part.
The monsoon remained vigorous over Indore and Ujjain divisions and active over Bhopal and Hoshangabad districts overnight. The districts under these divisions received eight-20 cm rainfall at isolated places.
There was respite from heavy rainfall in the state capital and Indore with the weather relenting. Bhopal recorded 54.8 mm rainfall overnight.
Last year, the state capital recorded 1,105.5 mm rainfall.
Indore received three inches rainfall overnight which means the district has received 772 mm rainfall so far.
According to the weather department, Mahidpur received 20 cm rainfall overnight, while other chief amounts of rainfall were Khachraud (18 cm), Garauth (17), Shajapur (15), Ujjain (15), Depalpur (14), Tarana (14), Susner (14), Javad (13), Shujalpur (12), Badnagar (11), Gautampura (10), Bhanpura (10), Suvasara (10), Neemuch (10), Hoshangabad (9) and Indore (8).
