Mettur to attain FRL this noon-PWD
Tiruchirapalli, Aug 19 (UNI) The Stanley Reservoir at Mettur across the River Cauvery is all set to attain its full reservoir level (FRL) this afternoon, due to copious inflow from Karnataka reservoirs.
Talking to UNI here this morning, K K Palanisamy, Executive Engineer, River Conservancy Division, state Public Works Department (PWD), said 'there is no alarming situation presently and even if one lakh casecs of water was let out from the Mettur Reservoir.
there is no flood threat, as the Cauvery River can sustain it.' He said everything was in control and there was nothing to worry about or fear over the dam reaching its FRL. Though the dam had been constructed to store 120 feet water, it had the capacity to store water up to 124 feet, the maximum storage level. So far, no flood threat was issued to the Cauvery districts, he added.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Stanley Reservoir stood at 119.85 feet this morning, with a heavy inflow of 61,214 cusecs.
The discharge was 24,000 cusecs.
From Grand Anaicut in Thanjavur district, about 3,178 cusecs of water was let out into the River Cauvery, 9,521 cusecs into Vennar, 3,514 cusecs into Grand Anaicut canal and 2,018 cusecs into river Coleroon for irrigation purposes.
