Meghalaya Speaker and PCC chief in Delhi to resolve CM issue
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) As Congress MLAs in Meghalaya have resumed their stir for a change of the Chief Minister after keeping low for a fortnight, state assembly speaker M M Denggo is slated to reach here this evening to present his perspective before the party high command.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief O L Nongtdu, along with five other congress MLAs, are already here since the past few days to seek the party high command's blessings for an early change in leadership in favour of the former State Chief Minister D D Lapang, who was replaced by the present incumbent CM J D Rymbai in mid-June this year.
Meanwhile, State Governor M M Jacob is also arriving here to give his views about the present political situation and the stability of the Government.
Incidently, till date, Mr Rymbai has not been able to call a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) members following fears that he might be removed as he no more enjoys majority support.
Last month, as many as 27 MLAs camped in Delhi for nearly four days to press for their demand for the removal of the present CM as the assembly elections in the State are due in an year's time and it would be difficult for the party to come back to power under the leadership of Mr Rymbai.
According to Mr Sharif Laskar, a Youth Congress leader of the state, Mr Rymbai is expected to call the first meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Monday to gracefully handover charge.
