Left Front Govts would provide new alternative: Karat
Vaikom (Kerala) Aug 19 (UNI) The Left Front Governments in Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura would present a new alternative before the country, CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today said.
Mr Karat was inaugurating the birth centenary celebrations of P Krishna Pillai, the founder leader of Communist movement in Kerala and the state-level campaign against the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government's anti-people policies.
He said the UPA Government had to fulfil its commitments given in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP). As part of the campaign, some 200 meetings would be convened at different centres in the country, he added.
He said land, food and employment were the three major problems before the people.
Opposing the UPA Governments Land policy, creation of Special Economic Zone(SEZ) and handing over of land to Industrialists and Multinationals, after evicting farmers he said the land reforms should be implemented.
Criticising the import of wheat he said that wheat and rice should be procured from the farmers and the public distribution system should be strengthened.
Referring to the unemployment problem Mr Karat said the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme should be extended to all districts and urban areas, too.
He said the CPI(M) was supporting an independent foreign policy and suggested that India should not become a strategic alliance partner of the US, but could extend its friendship.
