K'taka Govt asked to recruit 500 Urdu teachers
Bellary, Karnataka, Aug 19 (UNI) The Karnataka State Minority Commission has sent a proposal to the State Government to recruit 500 Urdu teachers this year, its Chairman K S Mohammed Masood said today.
Talking to reporters here, he said that with the Government contemplating to recruit 17,000 teachers this year, the Commission had recommended the Government to appoint 500 Urdu teachers as many Urdu schools were being run with inadequately qualified teachers.
Mr Masood said the grants available to minorities would be distributed according to their percentage -- 60 per cent grants to Muslims, 20 per cent to Christians and the rest to other minority communities. Through the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, 30 per cent grants have been released for the development of Urdu schools in the State, he added.
He said that for the welfare of farmers hailing from minority communities, Rs 2.23 crore had been released during 2005-06, out of which Rs 1.86 crore had been spent.
