Haryana to build 70 stadia in rural areas
Chandigarh, Aug 19 (UNI) For promoting sports activities in Haryana, the state government has decided to construct 70 sports stadia in rural areas.
This was stated by Dr K V Singh, Officer on Special Duty to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while inaugurating the 41st State Level School Sports Competition at Sirsa today.
Dr Singh said the state government had made a provision of Rs 50 crore during the current financial year for the promotion of sports in the state.
It had also been decided to formulate a new Sports Policy under which more benefits would be provided to the sportspersons for making Haryana the number one state in the field of sports, he added.
He said that an amount of Rs 40 lakh would be spent for the construction of a stadium over an area of seven acres in one village of each block of the State.
It had been proposed to set up eight sports stadia in different villages of Sirsa district.
Dr Singh said that the sports facilities and infrastructure in the state was being improved in the wake of coming 2010 Commonwealth Games to be hosted by the country in New Delhi so that few of these tournaments could also be organised in Haryana.
He said the National Committee had already conducted a survey in this regard and there was a probability of hosting few competitions of the Commonwealth Games in one or two cities of Haryana.
