Cancer Institute in Katra to grow as Medical College: Sinha
Jammu, Aug 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) S K Sinha today said the proposed state of the Art Cancer Institute in Katra will grow into a Medical College and form a part of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the 9th meeting of the Executive Council of SMVD University at the campus here today, the Governor described the University as the flagship of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, saying it is all set to emerge as an Institution of excellence of international standards.
He said the Cancer Institute would first be upgraded as Institute of Medical Excellence before it grows into a Medical College.
''A beginning has already started with the passing out of the first batch, which registered a splendid 100 per cent placement in the corporate sector. This odyssey will continue with the dynamic control of the Vice Chancellor and dedicated efforts of faculty and the staff,'' he said.
Earlier, the Governor inaugurated the new administrative block of Shri Mata Vaishnodevi University constructed at a cost of Rs 1.32 crores.
With a built up area of 2249 square meters, the block has a mega council hall besides spacious space for various wings of the administration.
