'Campaign to Save RTI Act' delegation meets Sonia on RTI amendments
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Social activist and 'Campaign to Save RTI Act' leader Aruna Roy, today led a delegation to meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in connection with the controversial amendments being proposed in the Right to Information Act.
Ms Roy during her meeting sought categorical assurance from Ms Gandhi and the UPA on the withdrawl of amendments, according to a 'Campaign to Save RTI Act' release.
The delegation stressed the sense of urgency on the issue as social activist Anna Hazare's 'hunger strike' had entered the 11th day and his health was fast deteriorating.
Expressing her concern over Mr Hazare's health, Ms Gandhi assured the delegation to immediately speak to the government to issue a statement on the status of the RTI amendments, the release added.
Meanwhile, the RTI Campaign will continue its 'dharna' at Jantar Mantar here till the last day of current session of Parliament or until the government provides an assurance that the amendments would be withdrawn.
