Bangladeshi smuggler shot dead by BSF

Raigunj, Aug 19 (UNI) A Bangladeshi smuggler was shot dead by BSF jawans after he defied their order to halt at the Indian side of the international border here this morning.

Police said about 12 Bangladeshi intruders carrying smuggled goods, mostly sarees, cut through the barbed wire fence and entered India.

When challenged by the BSF jawans, they fled forcing the jawans to fire. While one of them died the spot, others escaped to the other side leaving some goods behind.

The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem here, the police added.
