Army to look after orphans and other weaker sections in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 19 (UNI) The Army in the Kashmir valley is undertaking civic operations and working to uplift the sections of the society, particularly the orphans.
The defence authorities here are already loooking after 21 boys at an orphanage centre which was inaugurated by Major Gen N K Singh General-Officer-in-Command (GOC) Kilo Force at Pattan in north Kashmir yesterday.
The centre is seen as an example of partnership between Army and the civilians to work together for the weaker sections of the Kashmiri society.
Carrying forward its mission to contribute positively to the society, Army donated a Rs five lakh towards construction of this Baitul Fallah (Boys orphanage) located on the National Highway The project had been undertaken under ''Operation Sadbhavna'.
Two Rashtriya Rifles Battalions undertook the project on behalf of the Army.
Besides Rs five lakh donated by the Army, generous contributions poured in from various civil institutions and individuals for the project.
'Baitul Fallah' is a double-storey building located on national highway and has adequate infrastructure to look after the comforts of the boys and their recreation.
This orphanage at Singhpora is already looking after 21 boys and there is room for more.
The project reflects the spirit of cooperation between the Army and civil society which has gradually taken roots in Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, GoC Kilo Force highlighted the efforts being made by the Army towards overall development of the state.
Stressing upon the need to redress the problems of militancy affected children, Maj Gen Singh urged all those present to contribute whole-heartedly towards the cause.
He assured that the Army will continue to provide all possible assistance to the people in their drive towards a developed Kashmir.
