Mizoram to take serious measures on infiltrators
Aizawl, Aug 18 (UNI) Mizoram government has chalked out new measures to contain illegal immigration from Bangladesh here.
Chief Secretary Haukhum Hauzel today told UNI that a new state monitoring committee had been set up to check infiltration from Indo-Bangladesh border areas as instructed by the Union Home ministry.
''Though we share an international border with Bangladesh, there are less chances of infiltration, however, we have deployed more police and Border Security Force (BSF)in these areas,'' he further added.
He, however, said the government was concerned about those who had already sneaked into the country.
The state monitoring committee would setup a special task force of police personnel in all the districts bordering Bangladesh and work along with the BSF personnel deployed at strategic points, Mr Hauzel said.
The committee officials would send reports then and there, which would be re-directed to the Centre, he added.
''We have already asked our liason officer in Silchar (Asom) to be more careful in issuing inner line permits and have requested the deputy commissioner office to avoid any possible entry of illegal immigrants,'' he pointed out.
''The state has a population of about 30,000 Muslims, who have come over from Hailakandi and Cachar districts of Asom,'' the sources said.
