TN Govt to enhance MLAs family pension from April 2005

Chennai, Aug 17 (UNI) A Bill to enhance monthly pension to families of MLAs, who died before their terms expired, from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 was introduced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly today.

Introducing the Tamil Nadu Payment of Salaries (Amendment) Bill, 2006, Law and Revenue Minister I Periyasamy said the Government had decided to enhance family pension with effect from April one, 2005.

To give effect to the decision, it had become necessary to amend the Tamil Nadu Payment of Salaries Act, 1951 (Tamil Nadu Act XX of 1951) suitably, he added.

The Bill when enacted, would involve expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of the State. The additional expenditure to be incurred as a result of the proposed legislation would be approximately Rs 90,000 per annum recurring.
