Jaya will find 'legal solution to rules violation' in House
Chennai, Aug 17 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today reiterated that she would find a 'legal solution' to the alleged violation of rules and traditions in the Tamil Nadu assembly.
In a five-page statement, Ms Jayalalithaa, who stopped coming to the House after attending a single day during the budget session, which began on May 22, cited instances to allege that Speaker R Avudaiyappan, with the support of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and leader of the house K Anbazhagan, were throwing to the winds all norms and rich traditions of the house.
Being a responsible leader of the opposition, she would not be a mute spectator to the violations and very soon, she would find a legal solution to ensure that the proceedings of the Assembly were conducted in a fair manner, she said.
It appeared nobody had told the Speaker about the seven-member Supreme Court Bench prescribing the rights of the Speaker after being asked by the President in 1965, and about the apex court's order, striking down the Punjab Speaker's order of 1969, she said.
The Supreme Court had issued an arrest warrant against the Manipur Speaker when he violated rules, she said and wondered if someone had even oraly mentioned this to the present speaker.
As Leader of the Opposition, she had the right and duty to inform the people on how the Assembly rules were being trampled upon, Ms Jayalalithaa said and cited incidents like en masse eviction of AIADMK members, 'rude behaviour' of marshals and the Speaker's 'unilateral actions.'
