DU all set to crack whip on candidates violating code of conduct
New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) In an attempt to ensure that students' union elections pass off peacefully, the Delhi University today said action will be taken under Ordinance XV(b) of the University against students found violating the model code of conduct.
''Indiscipline will not be tolerated. We will ensure that students or candidates, found violating the model code of conduct, are punished,'' Proctor and Chief Election Officer of the Country Gurmeet Singh told UNI.
He said as the per Ordinance XV(b) of the University a student can even be debarred from completing his degree.
''Depending upon the charges against the student, action can vary from imposing a fine, suspension and being debarred from obtaining the degree,'' he explained.
About the defacement of public property during the polls, Prof Singh asserted that efforts will be made to check the menace.
''It is a priority issue with us. We have banned candidates from putting up posters, including stickers, and hoardings and wall writing within the campus...,'' he added.
The election model code of conduct was announced by the University for the September 8 polls.
According to the guidelines, a candidates cannot make use of mikes and loudspeakers outside or inside the vicinity of the university.
Prof Singh said not more than two vehicles will be allowed by each candidate while campaigning. The limit on the election expenses has been fixed at Rs 10,000 per candidate, he added.
Entry of non-students into colleges and the University campus for campaigning has also been banned.
Canvassing will not be allowed in the University hostels after 2200 hrs.
