Chamling lashes out at Opp parties over caste politics
Gangtok, Aug 17 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today lashed out at opposition parties for indulging in caste politics.
The Chief Minister said, ''The opposition parties were trying to instigate the people by repeatedly raising the issue of seat reservation in the state assembly for the Limboo and Tamang communities.
Addressing a state-level Panchayat Sammelan, organised by the Rural Management and Development department here today, Mr Chamling warned the people to be aware of 'anti-people' politics.
The Chief Minister said his government had already accomplished the most difficult task of according scheduled tribe status to the two communities and reservation of seats for the communities would be made soon.
Talking about the recent admission of a disproportionate assets case against him in the Supreme Court, he described it as a political one.
Mr Chamling said the Congress party had filed the case with the sole objective of tarnishing his image.
Mr Chamling said he had already declared the list of his property but the opposition parties were trying to defame him.
The people of the state had already reposed their faith on his party by electing them for three consecutive terms.
Mr Chamling said his government was committed to remove poverty and make Sikkim the richest state in the country.
He said steps had already been taken to make the state power surplus state by 2015. Efforts were on to make collaborative arrangement with some European countries to promote floriculture, horticulture, off-season vegetable cultivation.
Speaking about other projects in the state, Mr Chamling said the Centre had already sanctioned Rs 500 crore for widening of the National Highway and an Airport is coming up at Pakyong soon.
