Centre releases Rs 338.92 lakh for water quality in Tamil Nadu
New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned Rs 338.92 lakh as first installment of its share for water quality affected habitations under the Accelerating Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) to Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu Government has urged the Centre for release of funds for coverage of 306 habitations affected by Flouride. The coverage of these water quality habitations has been approved by the State Level Sanctioning Committee and is estimated to cost Rs 1034.40 lakh.
The Central share is Rs 753.17 lakh as per the funding pattern of 75: 25 between Centre and state for projects taken up after February 2006.
During the last financial year, Tamil Nadu covered 742 water quality habitations under Bharat Nirman scheme. In another 336 habitations the works are under way and expected to be completed shortly. Presently, the habitations having water quality problems are being addressed under Bharat Nirman programme.
