AP Assembly to sit for one more day
Hyderabad, Aug 17 (UNI) The Business Advisory Committee today decided to extend the Andhra Pradesh Assembly's monsoon session by a day.
The BAC chaired by Speaker K R Suresh Reddy decided to have the session till August 31 instead of August 30 to facilitate discussion on various issues, including floods in Telangana and Coastal Andhra and drought in Rayalaseema, land acquisition policy, price rise, high incidence of Chikungunya and legal hurdles to reservation for Muslims, Assembly sources said.
As the opposition pressed for extending the session to 15 sittings, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy agreed for extension by a day, they said, adding, the Government also agreed to the demand of the BJP and the CPI to have both question hour and zero hour and extend the day's proceedings beyond lunch to avoid postponment of short duration discussions on an issue to the next day.
However, the TDP as also its new ally the CPI(M) insisted that question hour should be suspended tomorrow to straightaway take up discussions on the flood situation, they said.
The short session would see introduction of bills to replace ordinances for creation of a Vedic University in Tirupati, amend the Motor Vehicles Taxation Act as also the Private Medical Care Establishments Act, they said, adding that the house would sit in the evenings on August 22 and 23 to consider the bills.
