Janmasthami celebrated in Meghalaya with fervour
Shillong, Aug 16, (UNI) Janmasthami was celebrated throughout Meghalaya with great fervour today.
Thousands of devotees thronged the temples in various parts of the city since the wee hours to offer prayers.
The occasion was observed with joy and enthusiasm. Temples were decorated and kirtans (devotional songs) sung right from morning.
All the temples were illuminated since yesterday evening.
The newborn idol of Krishna was placed on swinging cribs.
Janmastami is celebrated to mark the birth of Krishna. According to Hindu belief, Krishna is the eighth Avatar (incarnation) of Vishnu.
The 'Kalia Daman' was beautifully displayed at both the temples.
Quotes from the 'Bhagawat Gita' rent the air while Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna' chants reverberated in temples.
