CWC 2007 Inc discuss terrorism, hope ticket sales remain unaffecte

Kingston, Jamaica, Aug 16 (UNI) Organisers of next year's World Cup in the Caribbean have revealed that terrorism was discussed at their board meeting after the British security agencies uncovered a plot to blow up US-bound planes but hoped that the incident would not have any bearing on the demand for tickets of the showpiece event.

''We hope there will be no dramatic fall out (due to terrorism) across any tourism market but we certainly don't expect it to impact the demand for the Caribbean for the Cricket World Cup,'' Cricket World Cup 2007 Inc's Chris Dehring was quoted by the CMC as saying.

Dehring said CWC 2007 expected the event to be a major draw and felt that the threat posed by terrorist outfits would not hamper the fans' spirit.

''Many people view coming to CWC 2007 as visiting the Mecca of cricket -- there is a very special attachment to this event being held in the Caribbean which will overcome all those obstacles,'' he said.

Dehring said the fans, who will come to watch the event would be ''highly motivated'' and said the World Cup was still to far to get immediately affected by any terror plot.

''We took that into consideration. It's early days yet but we certainly discussed it at the Board meeting and we certainly will be looking at it from a managerial perspective as we see how it unfolds,'' Dehring said.
