Mah committed to security and devp: Deshmukh
Mumbai, Aug 15: Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the government was committed to the security and development of the people and the state.
''The development of the state will continue without any fear and without bothering about the hindrances,'' said Mr Deshmukh while speaking at the official flag hoisting ceremony on the ocassion of 60th Independence Day celebrations organised at Mantralaya.
The state is facing man-made and natural calamities but the state administration, police and army is doing excellent job to tackle the same, complimented the Chief Minister.
About 23 districts in the state faced flood fury, still government was successful in providing assitance to the flood-affected people and evacuated those staying in low-lying areas. Touching upon the sensitive issue of farmers' suicides in Vidarbha, Mr Deshmukh described this as a challange before the government and said the government woud face this challange too.
Concluding his speech, he added Maharashtra has been considered as the most progrewssive state in the country and will always be ahead.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, Chief Secretary of State Dr D K Sankaran, DGP Dr P S Pasricha, Mumbai Mayor Datta Dalvi and other dignitaries were present on the ocassion.
Meanwhile, amid tight security, vigil and ''naka bandis'', flag hoisting ceremony took place in various other central and state government offices, schools and colleges peacefully. The flag hoisting ceremony was also held at district and taluka head quarters.
