IAF inaugurates rebuilt school along LoC village on I-Day

Uroosa, Line of Control, Aug 15 (UNI) Western Command AOC-in-C Air Marshal A K Singh inaugurated the first middle school and community centre in this earthquake-ravaged village of Uri in border district of Baramulla on the Independence day today.

The village suffered extensive damage in the devastating earthquake of October 8 last year.

Air Marshal Singh unfurled the national tricolour and took salute in the school premises here.

Addressing students and IAF men, he said the entire nation was feeling proud of the people belonging to the border area for exhibiting courage and determination to start their lives afresh after the temblor.

He said Uroosa, which has been adopted by the IAF, would be developed as a model village.

Air Marshal said he chose to celebrate the Independence day with the school children in this village along the LoC.

He expressed satisfaction over the rehabilitation work being carried out by the IAF men in the village and also lauded the state Education Department for its support in rebuilding the damaged schools.

Air Marshal Singh said the construction of nine schools, four community centres, five mini hydel projects and four storage sheds was in progress and would be completed by October 31 this year.

The entire cost of these construction works amounted to Rs 3,21,58,348, he added.

Later, he distributed sweets among the school children and the villagers.
