Tribal girls notch academic success
Betul, MP, Aug 14 (UNI) In a stark reminder of the education challenge being confronted by India, two girls in this district are the first ones from their tribal village to pass the eighth-standard exam since the nation was freed of the British yoke.
''The young achievers will be honoured on the occasion of independence day and gifted Rs 1,000 each,'' said Asst Commissioner (Tribal development) B B Sengar.
Denizens of Piparia vilage, about 35 km from this district headquarters, are elated over the achievement. The girls, who cleared the test this year, drew inspiration from a village youth who passed the higher secondary exam.
