Sikh community observes martyrdom of fifth Guru

Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) The Sikh community took out a colourful holy procession from central gurudwara in connection with the 400 years of martyrdom of fifth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Devji in the city today.

The 'nagar keertan' was marked with carrying of 'nishaan sahebans' (religious flag bearers) belonging to various sikh gurudwaras of twin cities and neighbouring districts and 'panj pyaras' (five beloved Sikhs) and display of 'Gatak', a Sikh martial art form, by Sikh youths.

In a statement, President of the Gurudwara Saheb Nalebagh Sikh Chawani S Jahan Singh said 10,000 devotees took part in the holy procession.

They said a vishaal deewan will be held tomorrow in the city where thousands of Sikh devotees and other communities would attend the programme at Quli Qutub Shah stadium in the city.

They said the event would be marked by the recitation of 'Gurbani Keertans', by the reputed 'Ragi Jathas' (religious preachers) who were were being specially invited from various parts of the country to render 'shabad kirtans'.
