Mumbai, Aug 14 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party leader Shalinitai Patil has been expelled from the party for six years for her ''stand which is contrary to the social justice policy of the NCP''.

NCP general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni, in a release here today, said Ms Patil is being expelled for adopting a stand which was against the party's social justice policy.

Ms Patil, had been served a show cause notice on June 30 to which she had replied on July 5. However, her clarification was not found satisfactory.

Ms Patil, who has represented the Koregaon Assembly constituency as an NCP candidate since 1999, has over the past several months been advocating that instead of implementing reservation on caste lines, it is the economic criteria which should be the overriding factor while implementing the reservation policy. This stand went against her party, it said.
