Members raise issues of urgent public importance

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Mr Ramji Lal Suman (SP) today raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of menace of Naxalism which has affected 160 districts in the country.

Raising the issue during the matters of urgent public importance in the House, Mr Suman said the Centre should immediately take steps to control the spread of Naxalism.

He alleged that the police authorities in the name of checking Naxalism were only harassing innocent villagers.

He said Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand were the States which were most affected by Naxalite activities.

He said Mr K P S Gill, who was appointed as the Chhattisgarh security advisor to combat the Naxalite movement there, in his report sought various equipment and helicopters but those were yet to be provided to the State Government by the Centre.

He said the Centre should immediately provide all those without any delay.

Mr D P Yadav (RJD) raised the issue of implementation of reservation for OBCs in educational institutions of higher learning from this academic session.

Mr Basudeb Acharia (CPIM) informed the House that the Maharashtra Government in a recent order to the police directed them to investigate the passports, employers order and other related documents of all Muslims who are going abroad.

He urged the Chair to direct the Government to take up this highly discriminatory matter of the state government so that the relevant order be withdrawn.

Mr Madhusudhan Mishtry (Cong) raised the issue of various labour laws and related problems faced by unorganised and agriculture workers in most of the States except Punjab. He said the Centre should convene a meeting of Labour Ministers of the States to sort out the problems of implementation of the Minimum Wage Act and also to bring about a uniform minimum labour rate in all the states across the country.

Mr Sailendra Kumar (SP) raised the issue of providing education to all in the country.

Mr Arun Kumar Sharma (AGP) raised the issue of farmers' plight in Asom where so far they have not received any central assistance to carry out their agriculture activities. He said the Government should act fast and provide some relief to the farmers immediately so that the food shortage could be overcome there.

Mr S Sonwal (AGP) raised the issue of granting Scheduled Tribes status to six identified plain tribal communities. He said since 1993 there have been several recommendations for the inclusion of those in the ST list of the State without disturbing other ST categories reservation status. He demanded that it be implemented without any further delay.

Dr Karan Singh Yadav (Cong) raised the issue of the inclusion of Rajasthan under the Central scheme of rehabilitation package for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims as several Sikhs in the State were equally affected like their other community brothers in other states.

Mr Bharathari Mehtab (BJD) raised the issue of clinical testing of newly developed medicines by foreign companies on Indian people and whose data were not being shared by any of the Indian authorities.

He urged the government to make a law whereby it becomes mandatory for all of them to register any of their tests or research that they would be carrying out over Indian users.

Prof Rassa Singh Rawat (BJP) raised the issue of Gramin Dhak Sewak and their problems and urged the Government to immediately accept the Talwar Committee's report on this and implement the same at the earliest.

Ms Archana Nayak (BJD) raised the issue of trafficking and rape of women where the culprits are not even sparing foreign tourists and urged the Government to act fast to curb this to restore the image of the country abroad.

Mr Santosh Gangwar (BJP) raised the issue of a small rise in sugarcane support price announced by the Centre which is just seventy five paise per quintal while the profit margins of the sugar millers during the same period have gone up several times.

He said the Government must find out a way to implement the Rafi Ahamed Kidwai's formula to pay Rs 200 per quintal for sugarcane to the farmers in the country.

Mr L Rajagopal (Cong) raised the issue of damage done to 16 districts of Andhra Pradesh due to heavy floods and sought adequate timely financial support for the State to overcome the situation.
