Live bombs recovered from school in WB

Siliguri, Aug 14: Four live bombs were today recovered from a girls' school in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal which led to the intensifying of the security system here on the eve of Independence Day.

An anonymous call to Phalakhata police station said four powerful bombs were in the district and might be detonated on or before August 15. The police immediately launched combing operation and finally recovered these bombs in a room of Salkumar Girls' High School under Phalakhata block, senior official sources said.

Bomb squad from Siliguri police and experts from Army from Binaguri cantonment with sniffer dogs rushed to the spot and defused the bombs, according to Inspector General of Police, North Bengal Kishan Lall Meena.

He said the bombs apparently were made with copper wire and could be detonated with remote control devices.

He said Army and police were joinly investigating the incident.

The Kamtapur Liberation Organisation is active in Jalpaiguri and every year during Independece Day, the outfit indulges in violent activities.

Mr Lall said the security system in the Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh borders have been tightened after the recovery of bombs.

All railway stations, important installations and vital bridges have also come under stringent security network.
