Israel-Hizbollah truce 'generally holding: Annan

UNITED NATIONS, Aug 14 (Reuters) A cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon's Hizbollah that took hold early today ''appears to be generally holding,'' UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said.

''I urge the parties to make every effort, in the interest of the civilian population on both sides, to continue to consolidate the cessation,'' Mr Annan said in a statement.
