Inaugural Auto Rickshaw Challenge-2006 starts on August 21

Chennai, Aug 14 (UNI) The first-ever Indian Auto Rickshaw Challenge -2006 would be flagged off here on August 21.

The event would conclude at Kanniyakumari on August 27 after traversing through 1000 kms, covering length and breadth of Tamil Nadu.

It was not a time speed event, Arvind Kumar of IARC told newspersons here today.

''Basically the event is to promote adventure tourism where in, the participants, including 14 teams from abroad, will get to know about the culture, heritage and artistic splendour of Tamil Nadu and the local cuisine and folklore,'' he said.

From Chennai the participants would travel upto Mahabalipuram for a night halt, before it would proceed to other districts.

They would cover Mahabalipuram-Pondicherry on August 22, Pondicherry-Thanjavur on August 23, Thanjavur-Madurai on August 24, Madurai-Tuticorin on August 25, Tuticorin-Courtallam on August 26, Courtallam-Kanniyakumari on August 27.

It would be an annual event, Arvind added.
