Various welfare scheme for Ex-serviceman in Haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 14: The Haryana Government will spend Rs 17.5 crore for the implementation of various welfare schemes for ex-servicemen, their widows and war widows during the year 2006-07.

A spokesman of the Rajya Sainik Board said here yesterday, besides Rs 1.02 crore from the Chief Minister's Yudhvir Rahat Kosh, Rs 50 lakh from the Haryana Safety and Security Help Fund and Rs 1.07 crore from the Haryana Amalgamated Fund Samiti would also be spent for their welfare during the current year.

The spokesman said that Rs 1.30 crore were being spent every year for the maintenance of 'Sainik Parivar Bhavans' and to provide various facilities to the families and dependents of the soldiers in these Bhavans. As many as 4,883 children of the serving soldiers, ex-servicemen, their widows and war widows were provided training in various courses in these Bhavans.

He said that Sainik Bhavans were opened at Panchkula, Chhachhrauli, Rohtak, Rewari, Jhajjar, Hisar, Jind and Charkhi Dadri. Serving soldiers, ex-servicemen, children of their widows and dependents were given one-year training in computer, stenography in Hindi and English and cutting and stitching in these Bhavans. 303 children were given such training during this year.

He said that the one year diploma course was equivalent to that of Industrial Training Institute Diploma.

He said that such children were also prepared for the premedical entrance test, general engineering entrance test. In addition to it, four courses were arranged every year for their recruitment in Army.

The first course of this year was arranged during last April and the second course during June in which 52 children participated.

He said that during the last year, 603 ex-servicemen were given employment in various departments of the state government and 148 ex-servicemen were employed in Central Government, Nationalized Banks, Public and Private Sectors. Besides, Electricity Department had assigned the work of meter reading and bill distribution to ex-servicemen in one sub-division of 11 districts in Northern Haryana and nine districts in Southern Haryana.
