Aizawl, Aug 14: Members of the Former Legislators Association of Mizoram (FLAM) have voiced concern on the CBI's inability to enter the state as the state government has withdrawn its consent on this matter.

Delivering lecture in a function here, FLAM president K L Rochama said while all states are taking the CBI offers, Mizoram had revoked the General Consent that was signed in 2004. This had prompted the visit of CBI director general to Mizoram.

He expressed concerned over growing corruption in the state, as CBI cannot undertake any investigations here due to non-existence of general consent.

All states had given their consent that empowers the CBI to use the Delhi Police Special Establishment Act in investigating corruption in the states, except Mizoram.

This was also discussed by the CBI during meeting with Chief Minister Zoramthanga in Aizawl last year.

''We believe CBI had strongly urged the state government to give its consent again. However, the state government is yet to take any initiative in this matter,'' Rochama said.

FLAM had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister entitled 'Corruption and its Containment' where the organisation had requested that the subject be discussed in detail but is yet to receive any response, he said.

FLAM is an organisation made up of former state legislators and former parliamentarians from Mizoram who want to change the 'corrupt system of governance' that is in place in Mizoram.

He further alleged that even the Church was to blamed because it accorded high status to corrupt practitioners so long as their monetary contribution was met.

Apart from FLAM, the Society for Social Action (SOSA) is currently taking up the corruption issue by conducting investigations where public money was seen as being misutilised.

The state's senior citizens group, Mizoram UPA Pawl, has also taken up the issue by launching campaign against corruption early this year.

Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee President Lalthanhawla has also thrown several challenges at the MNF government to call in the CBI to investigate both the Congress and the MNF on whether they are free from corruption.
