Flood situation in Andhra Pradesh continues to be alarming
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) The flood situation in the Krishna basin continued to be grim today as the river and its tributaries were in spate following heavy rains in the upper riparian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
A flood alert was sounded as the level in the Tungabhadra rose above the danger mark in the temple town of Mantralayam, forcing authorities to step up discharge to 1.65 lakh cusecs, irrigation officials said.
Bringing down the level to 878 feet in Srisailam, about 5.06 lakh cusecs of water was let out. As much as 4.85 lakh cusecs was discharged from Nagarjunasagar maintaining the level at 580 feet against the full level of 590.
With an inflow of 5.30 lakh cusecs at the Prakasam Barrage, the authorities let out 5.14 lakh cusecs into the sea after diverting 7,333 cusecs into the Eastern Main Canal, 8216 cusecs into the Western Main Canal and 400 into the Guntur channel.
