BPL families to get houses by 2009: JK govt

Jammu, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir government has set the target to provide accommodation under the Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) to all houseless families in rural areas living below poverty line by 2009.

Minister of State for Rural Development Babu Singh, while talking to mediapersons, disclosed the coalition governement's scheme and said two towns, Basohli and Nagri parole in Kathua district, have been selected for development under integrated housing and slum development scheme. An amount of Rs 5.11 lakh has been earmarked for each town and a proposal in this behalf has been sent for approval, he added.

Minister also reiterated his resolve to provide honorarium to the sarpanches and sitting fee to panches on the pattern of local bodies and said this will be implemented after fresh panchayat election. The total number of panchayat will reach 3900 after delimitation, as the existing number is 2700, he maintained.
