AP Police demands more time to investigate SC, ST cases
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh police expressed the view that the one-month deadline fixed by the Court for investigating SC and ST cases was too short a period and it needed to be extended.
The dissatisfaction of the department was expressed in a videoconference by the Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen with the district Superintendents of Police and Commissioners.
The short time might lead to inconclusive and hasty investigation and would fail to gather substantial evidence, they said.
The video-conference was arranged to take stock of security measures on the eve of Independence Day celebrations and the forthcoming monsoon Assembly session beginning from August 17.
The Traffic Advisory Committees, many said, should be empowered to issue various directions to reduce number of accidents.
Mr Sen directed all Superintendents of Police and Commissioners to carry out special 'strangers drive' at all entry and exit routes, bus stands and railway stations.
They also discussed reenforcement of security measures at all airports as per the Central Intelligences Bureau inputs.
