Visakhapatnam , Aug 12 (UNI) In the wake of a depression in the Bay of Bengal, the authorities today released water from the Meghadrigedda reservoir to avoid flooding of the airport here once again.

With isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at the port city and also neighbouring Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, over 300 cusecs of water was let out as a precautionary measure, official sources here said.

''We want to avoid the last year's situation when the surplus water from Meghadrigedda reservoir swamped the airport, affecting air services for over fortnight'', they said adding that the level was brought down to 57 ft as against the full reservoir level of 61 ft.
