Treat 'Nikahnama' as legal document: Qazi Council

Jaipur, Aug 12 (UNI) The Qazi Council in the state has demanded that the ''Nikahnama'' be treated as a legal document for the registration of marriages as in the past.

Addressing a press conference here today Council President Peerzada Maulana Chamen Qadri said the performa issued by the state government in compliance of the Supreme Court order on civil case 231/05 has made it mandatory for the Qazi to sign a performa apart from the Nikahnama for the registration of marriages.

''This is unnecessary as the 'Nikahnama' itself is a legal document which has the sign of the Qazi and witnesses,'' he said, asking the state goverment to do away with the new performa and continue to treat the Nikahnama as the only document for registration of marriages.
