Teams to assess flood damage: Collector

Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 12 (UNI) As many as 150 enumeration teams have been constituted to assess flood damage, East Godavari Collector M Subramanyam today said.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr Subramanyam said 100 teams were involved in relief and rehabilitation work and victims provided with compensation for damaged houses and household articles.

About 12.99 lakh cusecs were being discharged from the Dowleswaram Barrage after second flood warning for River Godavari was withdrawn.

Arrangements have been made for supply of food and potable water to the flood affected, besides, fodder for the cattle.

As many as 21 persons died in the floods in the district and Rs 50,000 each given as compensation to the families. Repair work on embankments was being undertaken in several places.

A report from Amalapuram quoted State Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Gollapalli Surya Rao as saying the government would render all possible help to the affected and people should not panic.

They said rice and kersone were being distributed and power being restored in the villages.

Meanwhile, a report from Rajahmundry said East Godavari District Telugu Desam Party Official Spokesman Ganni Krishna alleged the Congress was politicising distribution of relief with only the party workers receving the benefits.
